Saturday, August 24, 2019 was indeed a blessed weekend for 8 indigent women in Egbeda area of Lagos state as they benefited from Rotary Club of Egbeda’s empowerment scheme.

The women who were freely given grinding machines by the club as a means of helping them start-up businesses through which they can earn a living, were full of smiles and gratitude to members of the club.

The grinding machines were officially handed over to the women by the club president, Esther Nwamma, alongside the District Governor, Dr. Jide Akeredolu who was on an official visit to the club. Also present were other members of the club.

The club further distributed free malaria and deworming tablets to adults and children in the Hausa community in Egbeda. As part of its measure to help the community in the prevention of malaria, the club also gave out free insecticide treated nets to women in the community.

It was an activity-filled day for members of the club and the District Governor who also joined in its tree planting exercise. The tree planting aspect of Rotary activities is Rotary International’s contribution towards the preservation of the environment.

DG Akeredolu further joined members of the club in paying homage to The Sheri of Isheri, His Royal Majesty, Oba Wahab Ayinde Balogun who expresses gratitude to the club on behalf of the community.

The oba, while speaking to the Rotarians in the palace said, “I thank you very much for the interest you have in our town because for a very long time now, you have been helping this community with your personal funds. God will continue to bless you all.”

Two new members were however inducted into the club by the District Governor during the club fellowship.
