The idea to form the Rotary Club of Festac Town was conceived when the District Governor of Rotary International, District 911 for 1982-83, Rotarian Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, through the District Councilor requested the Rotary Club of Apapa to sponsor and form a Rotary Club in Festac Town within the first half of 1982-83 Rotary year.  In pursuance of this, Rotary Club of Apapa, mandated Rotn. E. E. Ricketts, (the Past President of the Rotary Club of Apapa and District Governor’s Special Representative) to undertake the assignment.

On Wednesday, 25th August, 1982 the first meeting of business and professional men living and working in and around Festac Town was convened and hosted by Rotarian Eugene A. Ricketts in an informal get-together meeting in the residence Of Rotarian S. Oduyoye.
Subsequently, the meeting was held in rotation from one private residence of those invited to another until 15th September 1982, when the Provisional Club moved to the Durbar (Festac 77) Hotel, Amuwo Odofin, where it commenced its regular dinner meeting. As a result of membership growth and extension, the Club has, moved from one venue to the other, but since July 2013, the Club has been meeting GoldenTulip Festac Hotel, Amuwo - Odofin, Lagos.  On the 13th of October, 1982, 34 members completed application forms and elections were also held to appoint the officers of the Club. The Club had as its Charter President, Rotarian Fortune Ebie, who was then the General Manager and Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority in Festac Town and the Inaugural meeting was held in his residence.

The application forms of 34 provisional members were submitted to the Extension Councilor, Rotarian Babs Ajayi for onward transmission to the Rotary International. The Festac Town Club was admitted to membership of Rotary International on the 2ndof December, 1982 and the Charter Certificate was formally presented to the Club on Sunday, February 5, 1983 by the 1982-1983 District 911, Rotarian Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, at the then Durbar (Festac 77) Hotel Garden, Amuwo Odofin Estate.
The Emblem of the Club is the famous Festac 77 Mask that is against the background of the plan of Festac Town. The Club continued to grow from strength to strength. It has constantly been fulfilling its financial obligations to both Rotary International and District 9110.

It is interesting to that of the 34 charter members; one is still in the Club In the person of Rotn. (PDG) DIPO BAILEY. Some of the pioneer members have left the area. The Club lost five of its members namely Rotns. Onigbogi, Akpoveta, Bayagbon, Odumala and Obiorah. Their spouses and members of their families are always being carried along in most of our club activities. It is also interesting to note that one of the spouses in the person of Rotn. Grace Akpoveta is a PAST PRESIDENT of the Club.
The Club has produced two District Governors, many Assistant District Governors and Rotarians serving at the District.
