No fewer than 12 petty traders and artisans in Amuwo and its environs have benefited from Rotary Club of Amuwo’s annual micro- credit scheme.

The micro-credit presentation was carried out during the official visit of the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, Ifeyinwa Ejezie to the club on Monday, July 31, 2023.

The Chairman of the Micro- Credit Loan Sub- Committee, Past Assistant Governor Pius Udeh who gave an introduction of the project revealed that the no-interest revolving micro credit loan was started by the club in 2005 as the club’s economic and community empowerment project aimed at alleviating poverty and introducing financial self sufficiency for women in Amuwo, and has since then benefited several indigent women, young and old people.

This Rotary year, the club under the leadership of the Club President, Rotarian Angel Ezechukwu gave out a total of N2.8m to 12 new and existing beneficiaries.

The District Governor who presented the cheques to the beneficiaries pointed out what Rotary is all about.
“We are known for charity, that is why we are doing this to help people and not even people we know because if we do this to only people we know, then we are doing nothing. We are doing this to help humanity no matter your age or tribe”, she said.

The DG charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the loan and ensure it is paid back as and when due so that they can get another one next year and other people can also benefit.
Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Martha Obiche and Mrs Gloria Oluwatoki thanked the club on behalf of the beneficiaries. While Mrs Obiche is a first time beneficiary of the loan, Mrs Oluwatoki is a 7th time beneficiary.
