Rotary Club of Lagos Central, District 9110 has yet again, donated 60 sets of classroom chairs and desks to two schools in Lagos Island area of Lagos state.

The sets of furniture were presented to the schools during the official visit of the District Governor, Dr. Jide Akeredolu to the club on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

“I grew up somewhere very close by here and I know that in every little area around here, there are lots of needs. You are so lucky that the club has chosen your school to help you every year", DG Akeredolu told the pupils

120 classroom chairs and desks (60 each) were produced by the club and donated to Dolphin Senior High School and Elegbata Senior Grammar School. The desks and chairs will be distributed to 2 classrooms in Dolphin Senior High School and 1 classroom in Elegbata Senior Grammar School.

The club had last Rotary year, donated classroom chairs and desks to 2 classrooms in Elegbata Senior Grammar School.

Narrating the history of the club’s classroom chairs and desks donation, the Service Project Chair, Demola Ali said, “Our history with Dolphin Senior High School dates back to more than 10 years ago. We have done many things to facilitate learning and sanitation in schools over the years which includes donation of computers, equipping of the sick bay, donation of borehole, and even these chairs we are sitting on to mention a few.

“Three years ago, when we came for needs assessment, we were told that the classroom chairs and desks are broken so we donated so we donated some classroom chairs and desks. When we saw the impact of the project, we decided to extend it to other neighboring schools. Since then, we have been donating desks and chairs to the schools on a yearly basis”, said Ali.

The District Governor, while addressing the pupils said, “I grew up somewhere very close by here and I know that in every little area around here, there are lots of needs. You are so lucky that the club has chosen your school to help you every year.

“Another thing we are doing is to develop the culture of giving in you. For people in universities, we have Rotaract clubs but lower down in secondary schools, we have Interact clubs. When you become professionals and business men and women, you can now join a Rotary club where you will be called a Rotarian”, the DG added.

The School Principal, Dolphin Senior High School, Mrs Pereira Aina appreciated the club saying, “We appreciate you for your partnership. You have previously donated a sick bay to us and now, you are donating classroom chairs and desks to us. We are highly grateful. I don’t know how to express it because this project will go a long way in the lives of the students. May the club continue to wax stronger.”
