Rotary Club of Lekki Phase One in collaboration with the Nigeria National Polio Plus Committee has provided a portable water borehole facility for Ebute Elefun High School in Lagos Island are of Lagos state.
 
Speaking during the project commissioning on Thursday, February 7, 2019, the club president, Dimeji Ajayi stated that even though no member of the club has a child in the school, the club has deemed it fit to impact in the lives of the children.
 
Past District Governor Tunji Funsho, the Chairman of the Nigeria National Polio Plus Committee who is also a member of the club stated how the project came to existence. “Polio as we all know, is a water-borne disease. Polio is contracted through unclean and contaminated water so we can prevent it by providing clean and safe water.
 
“As at the time we came here for needs assessment, there was no clean water for the almost 2000 pupils here as the borehole they had broken down so we decided to provide them with clean water”, he said adding that the club also decided to provide the school with a solar power system after noticing that the school currently has no electric power supply", PDG Funsho explained.

He revealed that the club went further to provide the school with a brand new generator set to enable them pump water in the absence of solar power, adding that the total amount spent on the project is N10.56million.
 
A representative of the Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Mrs Ajayi who spoke on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, staff and pupils of the school said, “I say a big thank you to the District Governor and the entire members of Rotary Club of Lekki Phase One. This is a laudable project as we all know that water is life. I commend you for a job well done and we look forward to further support from you.
 
DG Sodipo, in his remarks stated, “As rightly said by Mrs Ajayi, whoever gives water gives life”. Speaking to the school management and staff, he said, “I appeal to you to ensure that this project does not cease to exist after today by ensuring sustainability.”
